Dukes fall to Manchester in extra innings

Dukes lose in eighth, 7-6

MANCHESTER, CT (Monday, July 31, 2006) The Pittsfield Dukes were took game two of their doubleheader on Monday night in Manchester, winning 6-4 after losing the opener, 4-0.

The Dukes (13-28) allowed two runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Gil Zayas and Aaron Garza. Pittsfield scored one run in the third inning and five runs in the fifth.

Charly Bashara got the start for the Dukes and went 5 1/3 innings. He allowed four runs on eleven hits, striking out five and walking three. He picked up a no decision. Miles Whitlock came on with two on and one out in the sixth, and got the Dukes out of the inning. He allowed two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to allow Manchester to tie the game. Gil Zayas hit a GW home run in the bottom of the eighth to pick up the win.

In the fifth inning, Rob Perruzzotti and Joe Ayers earned back-to-back walks to start off the frame. After Max Warren sacrificed them to second and third, Grant Escue ripped a two-run double down the right field line. Rick Seltzer and Jake Willis both added RBI singles to add to the Dukes lead.

The Dukes will take on the North Adams SteepleCats at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at Wahconah Park for their final game of the 2006 season. Fireworks will follow that ballgame.
