Dukes shutout in game one of doubleheader

Manchester beats Dukes in seven inning contest

MANCHESTER, CT (Monday, July 31, 2006) The Pittsfield Dukes were defeated by the Manchester Silkworms in game one of a doubleheader on Monday by the score of 4-0.

The Dukes (13-27) allowed two runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Gil Zayas and Matt Cooney. They gave up a run in each of the third and fourth innings to fall behind by four runs.

Mitch Clegg got the start for the Dukes and went the complete game. He allowed four runs on nine hits, striking out four and walking none. The Dukes offense was stymied by Silkworms (19-19-1) pitching, collecting three hits. Jesse Darcy hurled a complete game shutout for Manchester

Charly Bashara will get the start on the hill for the Dukes in game two of the doubleheader.

The Dukes will take on the North Adams SteepleCats at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at Wahconah Park for their final game of the 2006 season. Fireworks will follow that ballgame.
