Torrington
scores two runs in eleventh to pick up 6-4 win
PITTSFIELD, MA (Sunday, July 30,
2006) The Pittsfield Dukes dropped an extra inning affair to the
Torrington Twisters by the score of 6-4 on Sunday night.
The Dukes (13-26) fell behind 4-0 after the fourth inning, but would
chip away from there on. They picked up two runs in the bottom of the
fourth on RBI’s by Grant Escue and Rob Peruzzotti. They would score a
run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game. Peruzzotti
finished the night at 3-4 with two RBI.
Bill Riggieri got the start for the Dukes and went five innings. He
allowed four runs on six hits, striking out four and walking three.
Mitch Duggins and Grant Escue provided 3 1/3 innings of scoreless
relief. Santo Maertz pitched well in relief, but got the loss on an
unearned run in the eleventh inning.
The Dukes take on the Manchester Silkworms in a doubleheader tomorrow
starting at 5 p.m. They will take on the North Adams SteepleCats at 7
p.m. on Tuesday night at Wahconah Park. Fireworks will follow that
ballgame.
