Dukes snap losing streak, defeat Keene on road

McCardell strikes out eleven Swampbats in 6-3 win

KEENE, NH (Thursday, July 27, 2006) The Pittsfield Dukes offense got going early and often, as they defeated the Keene Swampbats by the score of 6-3 at Alumni Field.

The Dukes (13-24) picked up three runs in the top of the third inning. The first on an RBI double by Jake Willis, who drove in Rick Seltzer. Max Arsenault and Willis both scored on wild pitches in the inning to give the Dukes a 3-0 lead. The Dukes would lead it 5-0 before a 35 minute lightning delay halted the game in the sixth.

Pittsfield picked up where they left off and picked up a 6-3 win behind Mike McCardell, who pitched exceptionally well again for the Dukes. He went seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out a season-high eleven Swampbats and picked up his second win of the year. Santo Maertz pitched two innings and struck out five batters.

Offensively, the Dukes thrived at Alumni Field, picking up thirteen hits on the ballgame. Jake Willis went 3-4 with an RBI and Matt Rogers continued to hit well, going 2-3 with two runs scored.

The Dukes return home tomorrow, Friday, July 28th for Fireworks Night at Wahconah Park. The Dukes take on local rival North Adams at 7 p.m.
