Dukes
give up two in eighth, lose 4-3
TORRINGTON, CT. (Tuesday, July 25,
2006) The Pittsfield Dukes lost their sixth straight game, dropping a
4-3 ballgame in Torrington.
The Dukes (12-23) had a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the eighth
inning before the Twisters picked up two runs in an unconventional
manner. The first on a sacrifice bunt and the second on a passed ball.
The Twisters (19--17) hung tough in the game, and ended up on the
winning end.
Bill Riggieri got his first start of the season for Pittsfield and
pitched well. He went six innings allowing only two runs on four hits.
He struck out four batters on the night. Grant Escue pitched a scoreless
seventh, but fell into trouble in the eighth. Aaron Newman and L.V. Ware
picked up hits to start the inning and both came around to score.
The Dukes picked up six hits on the night. They scored one run in the
fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth. Matt Rogers had an RBI
single for Pittsfield in the fifth inning.
The Dukes return home on Wednesday to play local rival North Adams at 7
pm at Wahconah Park. Friday, July 28th is Fireworks Night when the Dukes
take on the SteepleCats at 7 p.m.
