Dukes drop fifth straight, lose to Danbury

Dukes fall behind early, fall 16-5

PITTSFIELD, MA. (Monday, July 24, 2006) The Pittsfield Dukes lost their fifth straight game, dropping a 16-5 contest to the Westerners on Saturday night

The Dukes (12-22) fell behind early for the third straight game, as Danbury picked up a run in the second and three in the third. The Westerners (13-22) scored in every inning but the first to cruise to victory. The two teams split the season series at three games a piece.

Mitch Clegg got the start for Pittsfield and went four and 1/3 innings allowing six runs on seven hits and struck out four batters on the night. Dave Nykiel, Mitch Duggins, Miles Whitlock and Chris Chapman pitched for the Dukes.

The Dukes only picked up six hits on the night and committed seven errors. Rick Seltzer went 2-4 with a triple and a run scored. Matt Rogers had an RBI double for Pittsfield.

The Dukes travel to Torrington tomorrow to take on the Twisters. They return home on Wednesday to play local rival North Adams. Audio and video broadcasts will be available via Teamline and the NECBL Broadcast Network on www.teamline.cc
