Lowell strikes first
and hangs on to beat Dukes
Dukes rally in ninth, but fall
short of victory
PITTSFIELD, MA.
(Thursday, July 20, 2006) The Pittsfield Dukes fell behind early and
could not battle back, as they lost to the Lowell All-Americans by
the score of 4-2 at Wahconah Park.
The Dukes (12-20) could not overcome the early deficit, as Lowell
scored three times in the second inning and one in the third. That
was all that starting pitcher Bobby Hernandez would need, as he went
a eight innings and did not allow a run on seven hits. The Dukes had
three errors in the ballgame.
Max Warren got the start for Pittsfield and went six innings
allowing four runs, only two of them earned. He allowed six hits and
struck out two batters on the night. Mitch Duggins, Mitch Clegg and
Santo Maertz combined for three innings of scoreless relief.
Despite having eleven hits, Pittsfield did little offensively until
the ninth inning, when the bats got going. Max Arsenault hit an RBI
single to drive in Rick Seltzer, who led off the inning with a
double. Matt Rogers added a single as did Joe Ayers, and the Dukes
had the bases loaded with one down. But Grant Escue grounded into a
4-3 double play to end the game.
The Dukes next game is tomorrow, July 21st when they take on
Manchester again at home at 7 p.m.

students $4. Please call (413) 447-DUKE for more information or
