Dukes fall behind
early, lose to Manchester
Silkworms put on offensive
display in 10-2 win
PITTSFIELD, MA.
(Wednesday, July 19, 2006) The Manchester Silkworms picked up five
runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back en route
to an 10-2 victory at Wahconah Park.
The Dukes (12-19) could not overcome the early deficit, as
Manchester put up seven runs in the first two innings. Starter Dave
Nykiel went only 1 2/3, but only two of the seven runs he allowed
were earned as the Dukes made three fielding errors in the first
inning. Bill Riggieri pitched great in relief allowing only one run
on four hits through 6 1/3 innings.
The Silkworms (15-16) opened up a three game lead over the Dukes for
the fourth and final playoff spot with the win. Former Duke Wilson
Matos hit his second home run at Wahconah Park this season, and had
three RBI for Manchester. The two teams will meet up three more
times this week.
Max Arsenault had two hits for the Dukes and scored a run as well.
Offensively, the Dukes collected nine hits in the ballgame.
The Dukes next game is tomorrow, July 20th, when they take on the
Lowell All-Americans at 7 p.m. at Wahconah Park. They play
Manchester again at home on Friday night at 7 p.m.
