game at Sanford
Mainers rally for nine in win
over Pittsfield
SANFORD, ME
(Wednesday, July 19th, 2006) The runs began early and often for the
Sanford Mainers, as they defeated the Pittsfield Dukes 9-1 at
Goodall Park.
The Dukes (12-18) fell behind early and never rallied, as Sanford
scored three times in the bottom of the first off Pittsfield starter
Charly Bashara. Bashara went five innings, allowing eight runs on
thirteen hits. Miles Whitlock pitched two scoreless innings and
Grant Escue hurled a scoreless ninth.
For the Mainers (19-12), their 1-3 hitters collected eight hits and
scored seven of the nine Sanford runs. Starter Tom Close went eight
innings, allowing only one run on four hits. Close struck out seven
Dukes.
There was very little offense in the game for the Dukes, who only
collected four hits in the contest. Max Arsenault drove in Rick
Seltzer in the bottom of the fifth inning. Seltzer went 1-3 with a
triple.
The Dukes play three straight home games starting tomorrow, July
19th, when they take on Manchester at 7 p.m. They host Lowell on
Thursday and Manchester again on Friday night. Both those game begin
at 7 p.m. at Wahconah Park.
