Dukes rally in eighth
for 7-5 win
Arsenault’s two-RBI triple gives
Dukes much needed win
PITTSFIELD, MA.
(Monday, July 17, 2006) The game went back and forth all night, but
in the end, it was Pittsfield who emerged victorious over first
place Newport by the score of 7-5.
The Dukes (12-17) struck first for two runs in the bottom of the
first inning. The rally came with two outs in the innings, when
Willy Fox drove in Randy Gress with an RBI triple and then Grant
Escue drove him in with an RBI single. Willy Fox added another RBI
in the third inning to tie the game at three. Fox went 3-4 on the
night.
The Dukes trailed by the score of 4-3 in the fifth inning when Randy
Gress drove in Matt Rogers to tie the score. Dan Mellies gave the
Dukes a 5-4 lead with an RBI groundout in the sixth. Newport (21-9)
tied the game up with a run in the eighth inning. Max Arsenault hit
a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the
Dukes the 7-5 lead.
Mike Powers had to leave the game in the fifth inning after getting
hit on the hand with a line drive. Bill Riggieri allowed only one
run in 2 2/3 innings of relief, and Mitch Duggins picked up the win.
The Dukes next game is tomorrow, July 18th, when they travel to
Sanford to take on the Mainers at noon. Their next home game is
Wednesday, July 19th, when the Dukes take on Manchester at 7 p.m.
