Marathon game at
Wahconah ends in Dukes loss
Seventeen inning affair gives
Danbury victory
PITTSFIELD, MA.
(Sunday, July 16, 2006) In a game that took more than 5 ½ hours to
complete, the Danbury Westerners defeated the Pittsfield Dukes by
the score of 4-3 at Historic Wahconah Park.
In what was a pitchers duel through nine innings, the score stood at
1-1. In the 14th inning, Danbury scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead.
The Dukes (11-17) rallied back for two runs of their own in the
bottom of the inning. The Westerners picked up a run in the 17th
inning to win the game.
Mike McCardell started for the Dukes and pitched well, but was
credited with a no decision. The Dukes used six pitchers in the
ballgame, and Mitch Duggins was credited with the loss.
Pittsfield scored their first run on two throwing errors in the
second inning and Danbury scored theirs on a wild pitch in the
eighth inning.
Offensively, Randy Gress picked up three hits in nine at-bats. Matt
Rogers had an RBI single in the bottom of the 14th inning.
The Dukes next game is tomorrow, July 17, 2006 when they host
division leading Newport at 7 p.m. at Wahconah Park.
