Dukes win in dramatic fashion against Newport

Seltzer’s RBI single in tenth wins it for Dukes

PITTSFIELD, MA. (Saturday, July 15, 2006) The Pittsfield Dukes rallied back in the second half of the ballgame and defeated first place Newport 4-3 at Wahconah Park.

The fireworks began early for the Dukes (11-16) when Rick Seltzer hit a game winning RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning to give them a big victory. Seltzer went 3-5 on the night with a triple and two RBI.

The Dukes scored two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at three after falling behind by two runs early. In the inning, both Rick Seltzer and Dan Mellies picked up RBI singles.

Mitch Clegg got the start for the Dukes and went five innings, picking up a no decision. Charlie Bashara and Santo Maertz pitched well in relief to keep Pittsfield in the ballgame. Maertz picked up the win.

Offensively, Jake Willis went 3-5 with an RBI and scored the winning run for the Dukes in the tenth.

The Dukes next game is tomorrow, July 16th, when they take on Danbury on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Wahconah Park.
