Dukes Drop a Pair in North Adams
North Adams, Mass. (Friday July 13, 2007) – Friday the 13th turned
out to be a nightmare for the Pittsfield Dukes, they entered the
day’s action two and a half games out of a playoff spot with a
golden opportunity to close that gap, playing two games in North
Adams.
The front end of the doubleheader was a continuation of the game
between the two Berkshire County foes that began on Thursday July
5th at Wahconah Park. The Dukes led 1-0 as play was halted in the
top of the fourth.
The SteepleCats were able to overcome that deficit thanks to some
good bullpen work from Tim Adleman (Georgetown University) who went
three strong, picking up the win. Charly Bashara (Northeastern
University) was saddled with the loss after tossing five innings,
giving up seven runs only two earned on eight hits.
The first ball game was a sloppy one as the two teams combined to
commit six errors, four by Pittsfield and two by North Adams. The
second contest was not much cleaner as both teams contributed two
errors.
Bob Buskett (College of New Jersey) was impressive through the first
five innings of his appearance but ran into trouble in the sixth,
allowing four runs on six hits in the frame, and was the end of his
night as he gave way to Mike DiCato (University of Massachusetts) to
close out the game.
Tyler Stampone (The College of the Holy Cross) continued his
hot-hitting ways, hitting in both ballgames and extending his
hitting streak to nine games. Jim MacDonald (University of
Massachusetts) was another bright spot for the Dukes as he doubled,
walked, stole a base, and scored two runs in the night cap for
Pittsfield.
The Dukes host three games in a row, Saturday against the Holyoke
Giants at 7 p.m. with fireworks after the game and Sunday at 5
o’clock against the Vermont Mountaineers.
Monday the Dukes host the Russian National Team at 7 p.m., and will
give out free mini-bats to the first 300 fans through the gate,
