Dukes rally back, but fall to North Adams in marathon game
Pittsfield loses to local rival, 17-8

NORTH ADAMS, MA. (Thursday, July 13, 2006) The Pittsfield Dukes took part in a slugfest against the North Adams SteepleCats on Thursday night. In a game that took three hours and fifty-six minutes, North Adams defeated the Dukes, 17-8.

The Dukes (10-15) used four different pitchers in the ballgame. Mike Powers got the start and went only 2 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs, on nine hits. Bill Riggieri came on in relief allowing five earned runs on six hits. Max Warren pitched three innings of relief and only allowed one run.

After the Dukes picked up a run in the first and the second, but then North Adams’ bats came alive. They put up six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to open up an 11-2 lead. The Dukes rallied back for five runs in the top of the sixth inning to bring it to an 11-7 game. But the SteepleCats picked up five runs in the eighth inning en route to a 17-7 win.

Max Arsenault went 2-5 with two RBI and Grant Escue added two RBI for Pittsfield.

The Dukes take on North Adams again tomorrow at 7 p.m. Their next home game is Saturday, July 15th, when the Dukes host division-rival Newport at 7 p.m. There will be a fireworks display following that nights game presented by Greylock Federal Credit Union.
