Dukes win behind complete game shutout by McCardell
Pittsfield earns 4-0 win against
last place Westerners
PITTSFIELD, MA.
(Monday, July 10, 2006) The Pittsfield Dukes rallied behind a
brilliant pitching performance from Mike McCardell and defeated the
Danbury Westerners 4-0 at Wahconah Park.
The Dukes (9-14) got a complete game shutout from Mike McCardell,
who was making his second appearance for Pittsfield. He scattered
four hits over nine innings, striking out four and only walking one.
Offensively, the Dukes picked up a run in the first inning on an RBI
single by Grant Escue. Matt Rogers went 2-3 on the day, and hit an
RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pittsfield would add
two more runs in the fifth inning, one coming on an RBI single by
Mark Ostrander.
The middle three hitters in the Dukes lineup, Randy Gress, Willy
Fox, and Grant Escue went a combined 7-12 with three runs scored.
The Dukes have an off-day tomorrow before traveling to Sanford, ME
on Wednesday to take on the Mainers at 6:30 p.m.
