Dukes-Silkworms Washed-Out Mid-Second at Wahconah
Pittsfield, Mass. (Monday July 9, 2007) – Nelson Gomez (Keystone
College) was in the batters’ box for two pitches in the bottom of
the second inning until home plate umpire John Neves called the
players off the field due to lightening.
After five minutes rain began to fall and winds started to pick up
as an overcast humid night at Wahconah Park turned into a dark and
stormy one. Lightening got closer and the rain turned to hail before
the tarp could be rolled out on the field and by the time the rain
had stopped the field was almost completely under water.
So what was scheduled to be a five-game homestand for the Pittsfield
Dukes turned into a three-game weekend set with the original
Manchester Game getting rained out on both Wednesday the fourth and
Monday the ninth, and a Thursday night Battle of the Berkshires
matchup that was halted after three against North Adams.
There has been no make-up date for this contest as the Dukes and
Silkworms do not share a common off day for the remainder of the
regular season. Possible make-up dates include July 19th in
Manchester as well as the last day of the regular season on July
31st. The league-wide make-up date of August 1st is also available.
The Dukes will be off tomorrow, Tuesday July 10th, but will be on
the road Wednesday as they will travel to Concord, New Hampshire to
face the Concord Quarry Dogs at 7 p.m. Pittsfield will be back at
Wahconah Park Thursday as they will host the Sanford Mainers at 7
p.m.
Season tickets for the Dukes are available now. Tickets can be
purchased online at www.pittsfielddukes.com or by calling (413)
447-DUKE.
The Dukes appreciate your support. GO DUKES!!!
