Dukes Chip Away Deficit, But Fall 5-3 to Torrington
Pittsfield, Mass. (Sunday July 1, 2007) – Down by a score of 3-1
entering the bottom of the sixth, the Pittsfield Dukes were able to
slowly reduce the Torrington lead and eventually tied the game in
the eighth.
With one out in the eighth frame Jim MacDonald (University of
Massachusetts), who has been coming on as of late, lined a double
that made its’ way to the wall in leftfield and was lifted for a
pinch-runner in Kel’ii Zablan (Southern Utah University).
Sam Shaughnessy (Boston College) struck out swinging, bringing Tyler
Stampone (The College of the Holy Cross) to the plate. Stampone, who
had not played since the Dukes played the Holyoke Giants on June
17th, and had not started since June 13th in Torrington due to a
shoulder injury, came through big with a game tying single up the
middle delivering Zablan.
The Twisters scored two runs off of Dukes reliever Yadiel Lanzo
(Keystone College), both coming on a two out single by Steve Parker
(Brigham Young University) that plated Mike Fabiashi (James Madison
University) and Aaron Newman (Northwestern University).
The loss spoiled a great effort from Arric Mather (Franklin Pierce
College) who went seven innings, giving up three runs, on seven hits
and three walks, while striking out six.
