Pittsfield Excited for Team USA vs. Oil Can Boyd All-Stars Game

Pittsfield, Massachusetts. (Monday June 18, 2007) – Oil Can Boyd and his cast of Traveling All-Stars will be coming to Wahconah Park to face Team USA on Tuesday June 19 at 7 pm. The game will receive national television attention from ESPN.

The nation’s most popular sports network will be filming a feature piece about Boyd’s Traveling All-Stars and decided Wahconah Park would be the perfect location for such an event. They will be matched against the best amateur baseball players in the country, our baseball ambassadors to the world, Team USA.

Dukes’ Director of Marketing and Promotions Barry Wadsworth said of the attention being drawn to the oldest ballpark in America, “This is just a great occasion for all baseball fans. Art of the Game stepped up and really made this whole thing possible, and we are so excited that ESPN is going to be here at Wahconah Park.”

The Oil Can Boyd All-Star team is comprised of former professional major leaguers and includes a rotating cast of characters that includes former pros Marquis Grissom, Delino DeShields, Wendall McGee and of course, Oil Can himself.

The goal of Boyd and his band of former big-leaguers is to create awareness and reinvigorate baseball in urban areas of the country and to encourage young African-Americans to get involved in baseball.

The Pittsfield Dukes will be on the road in Manchester, Connecticut that night as they take on Southern Division foe Silkworms. This will be the third time the teams will have faced each other in the season, they are scheduled to meet six times throughout the course of the entire campaign. The Dukes game broadcast will be accessible through the Manchester Silkworms homepage, and via a link from the Dukes site. The Dukes site will be showing the Team USA vs. Boyd’s All-Stars exhibition match.
