Dukes Shut Out in Holyoke, Fall to Giants 5-0
Holyoke, Mass. (Sunday June 17, 2007) – The Pittsfield Dukes rough
start to the 2007 NECBL season continued on Sunday as they were
unable to plate a run for the first time this season, and took one
on the chin against the Northern Division leading Holyoke Giants.
Dustin Corbett (Pace University) picked up his first win of the
season as he went six solid innings, allowing no runs on four hits,
he walked two Dukes and struck out eight. This performance combined
with three defensive miscues by the Dukes led to another
disheartening defeat for Pittsfield.
Mitch Clegg (University of Maine) got the start for the Dukes and
pitched well enough to win, allowing five runs, only two of them
earned, on six hits, walking three and striking out one. This was
Clegg’s second nice start for the Dukes, as he pitched last Sunday
at Wahconah Park against the Manchester Silkworms, in that outing he
went six and two thirds, giving up four runs on seven hits.
The Dukes, who only had five hits on the evening, were led by
catcher Jeff Lieneck (Wheaton College) who was two-for-three with a
pair of singles. He raises his team leading batting average to an
impressive .455 in his three outings for the Dukes.
The Dukes will have an off day Monday and travel to Manchester
Tuesday night to take on the Silkworms at 7p.m. Also on Tuesday
night Team USA will be taking on Oil Can Boyd’s Traveling All-Stars
at 7 p.m. at Wahconah Park.
Season tickets for the Dukes are still available. Tickets can be
purchased online at www.pittsfielddukes.com or by calling (413)
447-DUKE.
