ESPN Coming to Pittsfield for Oil Can Boyd All-Stars vs. Team USA
Pittsfield, Massachusetts. (Friday, June 15, 2007) – Oil Can Boyd
and his cast of Traveling All-Stars will be coming to Wahconah Park
to face Team USA on Tuesday June 19 at 7 pm. The game will receive
national television attention from ESPN.
The nation’s most popular sports network will be filming a feature
piece about Boyd’s Traveling All-Stars and decided Wahconah Park
would be the perfect location for such an event. They will be
matched against the best amateur baseball players in the country,
our baseball ambassadors to the world, Team USA.
Dukes’ Director of Marketing and Promotions Barry Wadsworth said of
the attention being drawn to the oldest ballpark in America, “This
is just a great occasion for all baseball fans. Art of the Game
stepped up and really made this whole thing possible, and we are so
excited that ESPN is going to be here at Wahconah Park.”
The Oil Can Boyd All-Star team is comprised of former professional
major leaguers and includes a rotating cast of characters that
includes former pros Marquis Grissom, Delino DeShields, Wendall
McGee and of course, Oil Can himself.
The goal of Boyd and his band of former big-leaguers is to create
awareness and reinvigorate baseball in urban areas of the country
and to encourage young African-Americans to get involved in
baseball.
The Pittsfield Dukes will be on the road in Manchester, Connecticut
that night as they take on Southern Division foe Silkworms. This
will be the third time the teams will have faced each other in the
season, they are scheduled to meet six times throughout the course
of the entire campaign. The Dukes game broadcast will be accessible
through the Manchester Silkworms homepage, and via a link from the
Dukes site. The Dukes site will be showing the Team USA vs. Boyd’s
All-Stars exhibition match.
