Dukes Suffer Tight Loss in Extra Innings at Danbury

Danbury, Conn. (Tuesday June 12, 2007) – The Pittsfield Dukes tough beginning to the 2007 season continued as the Dukes fell to 0-5 with a road loss to the Danbury Westerners from Rogers Field.

The Dukes got a good effort from starting pitcher Chris Powl (West Chester University) who went six and two thirds innings, allowing three runs, just two earned, striking out five and not walking a batter along the way.

Other nice performances turned in by the Dukes include second baseman Adam Tempesta (University of Massachusetts) and first baseman Chester Wilson (Southern Utah University) who each homered in the contest. They were the first and second round-trippers for the Dukes this season.

Tempesta led off the top of the sixth with the score 2-1 in favor of the Westerners and swung at the first pitch he saw from Danbury starting pitcher Tom Davis (Fordham University) and drove it over the leftfield wall to knot the game at two. This sparked a three run rally for the Dukes as Alex Hassan (Duke) and Phil Cerreto (Longwood University) came home on a two-out two-run single by, newest Duke Ed Lienick (Wheaton College).

Wilson’s homer came in the top of the eighth inning with two outs and the scored tied at four, giving the Dukes a 5-4 lead. Danbury fought back with a run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at five, and scored the game’s winning run on a bases loaded walk to Danbury designated hitter Caleb McCool (Navarro College).

Pittsfield will travel to Torrington Wednesday night as they finish up their three game road trip against another Southern Division opponent.

Season tickets for the Dukes are still available. Tickets can be purchased online at www.pittsfielddukes.com or by calling (413) 447-DUKE.

The Dukes appreciate your support. GO DUKES!!!
