Dukes Land Acedo as Hitting Coach
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (Sunday, June 3, 2007) – The Pittsfield Dukes have
made another addition to their coaching staff, adding Bill Acedo as
their hitting coach.
Acedo, who coached from 2001-06 at Mount San Jacinto Community
College in San Jacinto, CA, is also a Mount San Jacinto alum, having
played in the 1996 and 1997 campaigns. In 2001, the Mount San
Jacinto Eagles’s record was 21-17, boasting an impressive 20-12 mark
in Foothill Conference play. Acedo had 26 All-Conference players and
13 were First Team All-Conference during his tenure at Mount San
Jacinto.
In 2007, Acedo moved to the east coast, working as a hitting
consultant with Williams College baseball team. Despite the job
being part time, Acedo valued his time with the program saying, “I
benefited from a great experience at a top notch baseball program.”
Acedo has a firm grasp of what he would like to have his players
thinking in the batter’s box, “I would like to try to teach them to
have a certain approach in every at-bat. Whether the batter wants to
get on base, move the runner over or drive in runs, I would like him
to have a goal in mind every time he steps to the plate.”
“The players are here for extra help. I plan on getting to know each
player’s strengths and weaknesses, and then helping them to improve
their skills,” says Acedo of his role and coaching philosophy. “It
is important for any coach to understand his players’ expectations.”
Both Acedo and the Dukes look forward to a promising summer and a
playoff birth in the 2007 season.
The Dukes home opener is June 9th VS. the Keene Swamp Bats.
