Ryan Fecteau named Dukes Pitching Coach.
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (Sunday, April 22, 2007) – Ryan Fecteau has been
added to the Dukes coaching staff. The current St. Lawrence
University coach and former Saint Anselm pitcher is sure to bring a
winning mentality to the Dukes pitching staff.
Fecteau is currently in his second season coaching at St. Lawrence
University and also has spent the past two summers coaching summer
ball including Team Connecticut in 2006. He is currently coaching
under long time St. Lawrence head coach Tom Fay who is coaching in
his 34th season and closing in on his 400th career victory. The 2006
Saints team is currently in first place with 14 wins and a team ERA
of only 3.03 under Fecteau's watch.
In 2005, Fecteau jumped at the opportunity to work as an assistant
coach for Watertown Wizards of the New York State Collegiate
Baseball League (NYSCBL). Similar to the NECBL, the NYSCBL is a
premier summer collegiate league based strictly in the state of New
York. Fecteau says he enjoys remaining close to his old Wizard
teammates and friends from the organization.
Fecteau brings with him quality playing experience as well. He
recently wrapped up a fantastic career at Saint Anselm College,
which included a career best 8 wins in 2004. In his senior season,
Fecteau boasted a 2.49 ERA in 83.0 innings pitched. He also recorded
70 strikeouts, and opponents hit a measly .202 against him.
In addition to his collegiate success, Fecteau also succeeded in the
NYSCBL. In 2004, as a member of the Watertown Wizards, Fecteau
sported a 2.68 ERA. He recorded 57 strikeouts in as many innings.
When asked how he would incorporate his success as both a player and
coach to coaching the Dukes Fecteau said, “I think the most
important thing is to be available to the players. Student athletes
are sent to leagues like the NECBL to improve their skills and our
job as coaches is to provide an opportunity for player development.
I believe it is also important for the student athletes to realize
that as a player, one not only represents the Pittsfield Dukes, but
also represents his college or university.”
The Dukes are excited to have Fecteau as a member of their 2007
coaching staff. He brings quality baseball experience, and a
successful mentality that will assure the development of Dukes
pitchers.
The Dukes home opener is June 9th VS. the Keene Swamp Bats.
