Dukes Name NECBL Alum
& current UMass Lowell coach as 2007 manager.
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (Friday, March 9th, 2007) The
Pittsfield Dukes announced the hiring of University of Massachusetts
Lowell Coach Mike Marron as their 2007 Field Manager. Marron is no
stranger to the NECBL, as he played for the Mill City All-Americans
in 2003 and compiled a .280 batting average that summer.
Marron
presently serves in his 2nd year as an assistant coach
for the Riverhawks of UMASS-Lowell, who finished with a 37-14 record
last season and are the current pre-season favorite in the Atlantic
10 Conference.
The
NECBL is one of the best leagues in the country, Marron said. Im
really looking forward to the opportunity to coach the Dukes this
summer.
He
strives to bring, a smart and fun brand of baseball that the
players and the city of Pittsfield will be proud of.
A
four-year player and three-year starter at Holy Cross, Marron began
his collegiate career as a pitcher but converted to catcher his
sophomore year. He earned All-Patriot League honors and was voted
the Crusaders most valuable player and team captain.
Prior
to Holy Cross, Marron was a two-year all-league standout at
Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, PA. and lead them to a state
championship.
Marron
spent the summers of 2004 and 2005 playing for the Lexington Blue
Sox of the Intercity League, in which he helped guide the team to
league titles both seasons.
A
native of Huntingdon Valley, PA, Marron is currently an English
teacher at the Molloy Alternative School in Lowell. He lives in
South Boston, MA.

The Dukes
